Nurturing Yourself During the Hot and Humid Season

Nurturing Yourself During the Hot and Humid Season

Hello, I’m Chiaki from RAKU RWO-SHR Reflexology.

It seems that my home country, Japan has already entered the rainy season around late May.
Here in the central-western Canada, while we don't experience the same level of mugginess as Japan's rainy season, we have been having occasional intense thunderstorms that make us sweat in the humidity. How is everyone doing these days?

Now, as the heat continues, it's easier for the body to retain heat. Additionally, excess moisture can accumulate in the body, leading to a feeling of heaviness and a decline in the function of the spleen and stomach. In times like these, reflexology is highly recommended!
Foot reflexology, known for its effectiveness in addressing general malaise or discomfort, can work wonders here as well.

In addition to foot reflexology, I also suggest trying the following:

  1. Release heat by sweating moderately:
Avoid the urge to stay indoors in cool rooms and instead take advantage of cooler times of the day to engage in activities that induce moderate sweating. This helps dissipate heat and maintain a balanced body temperature.

  2. Consume foods that cool the body:
Incorporate foods such as bitter melon, cucumber, lotus root, tomato, celery, and other summer vegetables and fruits. These foods are rich in water content and help quench thirst while cooling down the body.

  3. Maintain proper hydration:
During hot weather, it's tempting to drink large amounts of fluids quickly, but consuming too many cold beverages can hinder organ function. It's important to hydrate frequently by taking small sips, allowing the water to moisten your mouth before swallowing. Make it a habit to keep yourself well-hydrated.

By incorporating these practices into your routine, you can help regulate body temperature, promote better digestion, and maintain overall well-being during the hot season.

Stay cool and take care of yourself!
